Strengthening Hip Muscles

This month’s article concentrates on strengthening the muscles that flex the hip. When seeing the exercises used to train this area it will remind you of the same movements it takes to strike a ball. Bringing the leg forward in an explosive fashion will mimic the same movement as when a player drives a ball. The two exercises I like to use are the band hip flexion and weighted hip flexion. Both exercises are great to strengthen the hip and each exercise applies force differently. I would recommend using one exercise for two to three weeks and then switch this would create a new training effect each workout. You can perform these exercises once to twice a week. Perform 10 to 15 repetitions for 3 to 4 sets.

A Ron, Thanks for the nice words and I will keep providing the best training advice for all you soccer players that want that edge. Funny that you mentioned Tim, I am actually going to see him next week and go behind the scenes at Everton FC. I am looking forward to seeing him and it has been a long time. I will consult with him about his current training regiment and what we can work on this off-season. I will take a lot of pictures and have them up on Pics section of the site.
